General Treatment Philosophy

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience. My work combines cutting-edge science with a warm, empathic, and customized approach to treatment. I provide evidence-based therapy, tailored to the needs of each individual, so that my patients will receive the treatment that has been shown to be most effective for their particular concern. I believe that treatment should be collaborative, and I encourage my patients to play an active role in all aspects of their treatment. My patients tell me that I am warm, supportive, non-judgmental, and make them feel heard and understood.

Some examples of the treatment modalities I use are: Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing/Enhancement (MI), Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and psychoeducation.

I welcome patients of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

My specialty areas:  Behavioral Medicine, Behavior Change,  Mood Disorders,  Anxiety Disorders, and Life Transitions.

Behavioral Medicine

I completed specialty training in Behavioral Medicine, which is the intersection of psychology and medicine. I work with patients who have medical issues, such as (but not limited to):

  • insomnia and other sleep disorders
  • weight concerns
  • fear of needles and/or medical procedures
  • chronic pain
  • chronic headaches
  • digestive disorders
  • arthritis
  • skin conditions
  • diabetes
  • cancer
  • cardiovascular disease
  • loss of function
  • smoking cessation
  • difficulties with medication and medical treatments
  • general health behavior change

With patient permission, I will work collaboratively with the patient’s medical team to provide comprehensive, integrated care.

Behavior Change

I especially enjoy working with patients who want to change some aspect of their behavior. Often, people want to change but become so overwhelmed in thinking about all of the steps involved in change that they stay stuck, frustrated, and dissatisfied. I work with my patients to make the prospect of change more accessible, and to devise strategies to move toward change in a manner that feels achievable and less threatening.
